Settlement in Kevin Brown shooting case

AUSTIN (KXAN) – An Austin city council member confirms the city will likely settle a lawsuit with the family of Kevin Brown, shot and killed by an Austin police officer in June 2007. It happened outside the old Chesters nightclub in East Austin. Councilwoman Sheryl Cole would not share the amount of money involved in the settlement but should it be approved by the council, it will be made public.

Brown was shot by Officer Michael Olsen outside of Chesters nightclub in East Austin after a foot chase. Brown looked like he was reaching for a gun when the officer took action. An autopsy showed he was shot twice in the back. A grand jury declined to indict Olsen. He was fired from the force instead.
